Ponder and Reply: This Door.....

For this exercise, this shot taken in Barcelona by my nephew represents our class. Considering your comfort and familiarity with your camera, your manual, course resources, your blog, the shots you have taken, the responses from your families - have you flung the door open, run through and seized the day or are you still on the outside, struggling to open the door and peek through? Please let me know your thoughts........

I think I have tried to seize the day. I've been taking an awful lot of pictures since we started our class and I have tried to experiment with the different settings. There are still things that kind of boggle my mind and will take a lot more practice, but I am not giving up! I have found out what I am comfortable with and what I seem to be fairly good at, but that doesn't mean I won't keep working at the other things. I want to be able to take really good pictures! In fact, I wish I could make my daughter a baby again so that I could take really cool pictures of her (like on plexiglass!)! Even though our class will end tomorrow night, I am not finished...

Yes, Janet - You certainly seized the day! Carpe diem!

For me, the door is completely open. I am hooked! I don't think I've taken an automatic shot since class has started. I'm having so much fun. I can't wait to learn more. I need more books. I want another camera with even more capabilities! I agree with Janet. I feel like the door has opened, I've run through, but there's a long journey ahead!

I can only hope you will keep your blog going so I can enjoy your progress!

I know my camera does not even compare with some, but I have been surprised at the things that it will do...just look what happens when you read the manual! But I agree with Joy, I would like a better camera that will do even more cool stuff!

I'm still on the outside looking at the door, but tapping softly, trying to get the courage to knock loudly and demand to be let in. I love doing the photo stories and am not really a writer, have experienced difficulties with getting the blog going so I believe this is part of what is holding me back. I'm not a quitter, just a little slower in my old age, but plan to keep trying to get in the blog doorway.
I am definitely hooked on digital photography and know I will continue with it and incorporate it into my science classes.

I have flung open the door and am timidly standing in the doorway. I have branched out this week to try different settings and not with great results but I am not afraid to try them now. My biggest fear was the dial knob on the camera and afraid to get off the auto settings. I have moved past that and am enjoying the decision of whether to use a flash or not, which mode works for the shoot (dusk/dawn mode, evening mode, sports mode. I have also tried to turn the camera to get different angles and not place everything in the center. I am looking forward to using my camera now as opposed to hating it before this class started.

Beautiful door! I think I have opened the door but I have not stepped inside yet. I see some things in there that I would like to see better so that I can understand them. I also see some things that probably I don't have time to study them as closely as I would like to right now and therefore I may have to close the door and come back and try to find and see them later.

I have always been interseted in taking pictures. Many of my friends don't even bring their cameras anymore because they say I'm in charge of pictures. I feel like now, I will be able to take even better pictures and I now know what shutter speed and apeture, etc. acutaully mean. So yes, I have seized the day and hope to only learn more!

The door keeps opening... and closing. The auto setting is so easy and does such a great job so much of the time. I do enjoy playing with the settings but am leary of relying on it to take a photo that I must have!

I am on the outside struggling to get in. It is a beautiful door and I will eventually get it open. Part of the problem is that my camera doesn't have a lot of the features we have talked about so I can't really try things like changing the shutter speed etc. Another part of the problem is that I haven't taken the time to study outside of class as much as I should. I did visit New York city last week and tried to frame my shots a little differently than I would have a couple of weeks ago. It was fun trying and I did get what I thought was an interesting shot from the back of the Statue of Liberty. I hope you teach the first class again soon. I would love to take it.

I think now instead of looking at the door as an overwhelming challenge to open, I see it as a gate way to beautiful opportunities. I have crossed the threshold and began looking a my photographic opportunities in a new light. I have enjoyed it! My girls become frustrated with me and tired of posing so I have started taking more nature photos.

I have opened the door and am currently standing with one foot inside and one foot outside. I love to shoot and shoot, but I need to get better at downloading, organizing and working with my photos. Digital is wonderful, not having to worry about how many shots you are taking, but I'm just not happy with the controls of my camera. The controls are much like Word to me, sometimes it just does too much for me.

Beautiful door - I'm walking through but slowly. I love taking picture and putting them on my blog. I'm excited to share them with friends and family.

I have opened the door. I have always enjoyed taking pictures, but now I realize how to do a better job. My friend "Manual" has so much info yet to be discovered and tried. I need a camera with more options, though. Still so much more to learn and experience!
