Ponder and Reply (1) if You Want to Share

I took this photo in the strength and conditioning room of the Butts-Mehre Building at UGa. Disregarding the crazy angle and the fact that I took a picture of a sign, does it say anything to you about photography?

When you took your camera off the auto setting, how many black shots did you get before you figured out what was wrong?

You tried to read the manual and it read like a Greek technoguide.....then what?

Blog!@#$% Is this woman crazy...I'm too old/young/pick your own adjective to blog!

Furthermore, am I attempting to make photography a spiritual experience and ram something down your throat?

OK - Is that enough raw meat to evoke a response from you? If so, please leave a comment.....

P.S. GOOOOOOOOOOO Dawgs!

I think that photography can be a spiritual experience... it often provides a new perspective on God's creations.

Pictures capture a moment in time, giving us a moment to catch our breath and reflect. Sometimes it is a lot of work to capture that moment, but it seems to be worth it in the end!

I think the sign fits photography perfectly, now that I am trying to learn how to take better pictures! I ended up with several black pictures when I started experimenting with shutter speed and aperture. Those two things still confuse me!

I am not too old BUT it is going to take more than 3 nights for me to learn this.

I couldn't size the pictures on my blog. They are way too big. I need lots of instruction on the whole thing.

I told my husband the most important thing that I learned last week was that I need a mew camera. I'm glad he loves me!

I've discovered that I really am a point and shoot kind of person. BUT, it will be helpful to know this F Stop stuff just in case the point and shoot is not giving at least somehwat decent pictures.

I know you will not believe this but my camera does not have manual settings. I read my manual front to back and even had my husband who is a good photographer read it. Then I looked it up on the Nikon website and my camera is for the ultimate dummy. There are not any manual settings-just scene settings such as sports, landscape assist, portrait assist and night assist. I have played with the scenes but used landscape for the pictures on my blog.

I love photography and a picture can be worth a thousand words! I also feel that with taking pictures of my children or other children is a gift that can never be replaced. Each moment is only lived once and there are no redos on life's most precious moments. The spiritiality of photography is the ability to capture life's most wonderful moments.

The sign is an inspiration in whatever endeavor one is engaged and certainly applies to me as I struggle with digital photography and the computer....

I take pictures of signs sometimes too, that way I do not forget a saying that means something to me. I do agree that your sign can pertain to photography.
I took several black shots and a few white ones too. I like changing the settings and look forward to learning enough to take better pictures on the manual settings.
Thanks for all you do,
Joy

I think the sign applies to life in general. I'd add a line dealing with luck. Reading through my manual I kept thinking how "point and shoot" isn't so bad. Maybe changing settings will come with my retirement. The birds and squirrels wouldn't wait for me to change settings.

I think that photography can be a spiritual experience, but I haven't achieved that level yet. That level should come with time as I explore the different options and adjustments on my camera. Right now it is levels of frustration as I learn to "communicate" with my camera.

Great words of wisdom... I took 5 black pictures to be exact, then turned the camera to night mode :) LOL I think my camera is smarter than I am at this point, but want to learn so much more and practice, practice, practice!

I so agree with the GA sign. My passion is photography of family. With 2 girls, I plan the clothing (which they don't want to wear), lighting, placement and then I pray. I will post my attempts on my blog. The funniest thing is that my husband was the biggest baby of all!

Yes, this is definitely enough "raw meat"!! I'm still reading and practicing. Evidence that I may be bordering on the "too old" is that I often have to grab the magnifying glass in order to read the tiny symbols in my manual!

Thank you for being so brave as to teach us!

I'm excited about learning out to create pictures as these. I know with such and AWESOME teacher, I'll succeed.
